The Year of the Wood Dragon

On Saturday, Feb 10, we celebrated the Lunar New Year, also known as the Spring Festival, marking the transition of energy from the Yin Water Rabbit of 2023 to the Yang Wood Dragon of 2024.

While the Rabbit symbolized the Yin side of water—structure, softness, and rest—the Dragon embodies the dynamic change associated with the Yang aspect of Wood. As the only mythical creature in the zodiac, the Dragon represents expansive energy that transcends the limitations of our conditioned minds. With its association with Fire, the Wood element amplifies the Dragon's qualities, as Wood fuels Fire.

In 2023, we turned inward, finely tuning our nervous systems and nurturing deep internal shifts to prepare for action in 2024. Now, we're encouraged to examine the areas of unrest in our lives, communities, environments, and the planet, and be willing to disrupt old patterns. Inspired by the intelligence and leadership of the Dragon, how can we innovate on antiquated systems to transform what no longer serves our communities?

The Wood element also invites us to deeply connect with our natural environment, feeling the stability provided by trees and the invigorating beauty of new life and growth by welcoming that energy into ourselves.

If you’re inspired to harness this energy together, to move your body, learn new skills, and explore how the elements manifest within you and affect you, I have some great things to offer in the coming weeks and months:

  1. Santa Barbara locals are invited to join me for Fascial Re-Tuning + Breath at my favorite studio, Yoga Soup. February 16. I’ll lead you through a restorative evening diving into the inner landscape of the body, harmonizing the intricate web of its fascial pathways. Then my dear friend, Chantal, will connect us to the profound power of breath. Sign up here.

  2. Consider joining me for The Listening Movement Level 1 Practitioner Training, taking place April 19-21 in Austin, TX. In this small group setting, we will explore movement that fosters honesty with ourselves and one another, confront old patterns, disrupt them, and open our hearts. Space is limited, so sign up by April 14. Learn more here.

  3. Join me every Thursday for a Virtual Fascial Re-Tuning Class in the comfort of your own home. Collective Fascial Re-Tuning is a movement class where your personal rhythm blends seamlessly with a shared dance of exploration. As you move through flows inspired by the ancient wisdom of Chinese medicine blended with current techniques to re-tune your fascia, you're not just stretching your body, but also naturally discovering the balance between personal space and collective energy. Your Zoom screen is your personal sanctuary, where you're free to express your movement in your own unique way. Sign up here. Please note, there is no class this week :)
